Communication
Quality public school options are increasingly becoming part of Oregon’s educational landscape. The excellent work being done in these schools needs to be articulated, understood and shared, as do policies and other issues. NWCEO staff has developed a three-pronged communication approach that seeks to improve communication between stakeholders, share best practices, and increase the awareness of educational options in Oregon. Each component and its framework are outlined below, along with both initial and comprehensive strategies and activities that are currently under development.
- Spokesmanship:
- NWCEO will serve as the primary resource for information related to public school options in Oregon.
- NWCEO will provide leadership to public charter schools, alternative schools and school districts in the development of clear, consistent and compelling messages regarding the benefits, achievement, and demographics of high quality public educational options.
- Publications:
- NWCEO will create and publish a quarterly newsletter that will include educational policy issues, a ‘what is working’ section, local, state and federal updates, data updates, and other just-in-time information.
- The NWCEO website will be regularly updated with the latest local, state and national events, and electronic research library, legislative updates, and other current information.
- NWCEO will host a site for employment opportunities in public charter schools and alternative schools. The job postings may be viewed by both NWCEO members and non-members: however, only NWCEO members may post a job opening.
- Bridge-building:
- NWCEO will facilitate bridge-building amongst public school options, the public, and key stakeholders. NWCEO will develop a communications ‘grid’ to improve the public’s understanding of public school options and facilitate the sharing of information and practices.
- Through our workshops, annual conference, board, advisory and membership councils, and publications, NWCEO will increasingly assist new and existing schools refine the support and infrastructure they need to nurture high student achievement.
- By reaching out to the many organizations that regularly serve Oregon’s public school system students in grades K-12, and providing these groups with factual, non-partisan data, NWCEO will provide leadership and assistance in building bridges.
Please share with us positive success stories from your charter school, alternative school or other non-traditional small public school! Email info@nwceo.org with any stories that we could use.
